Location
Against a scenic backdrop of rocky hills hewn out of local granite, a mere fifteen minutes drive from the town of Kolar, lies the historic Devarayana Samudra village. Named after King Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagar (1509-20), it is the chief among the ashta gramas (eight villages) gifted to his aasthana purohits during his rule. This beautiful lake side village at the foot of Hollai Betta, is surrounded by ancient temples. Several thirtha sthalas like Avani, Antharagange, Kurudumalai and Bangara Thirupathi lie within a few kilometers of its surroundings.
Half a kilometre before the entrance to the village, is the village Goddess Ankalamma temple, and around this temple lies Thavaru.
NH4, a four lane National Highway connecting Bangalore and Chennai lies half a kilometre away.
Devraj urs medical college hospital fully equipped with all modern amenities for comprehensive health care is a 10 minutes drive from Thavaru.

Buses between Bangalore and Kolar are available on this route every 10 minutes. In addition, private transport vehicles can also be arranged. It is 3 hours drive from Chennai and there are frequent buses from Kolar to Chennai.
