We invite you to Hunkal Woods Retreat. (It’s Hunk- kl, not Uncle, mind it!). An exclusive, outdoor mountain adventure camp nestled deep in the woods and high up the tallest Western Ghats of South India. With the clouds below and the land above, we at Hunkal Woods Resort promise to turn your world upside down.
The Past
First up, our host mountains. They reek of mystery and history, and you really have to be intrepid on foot to get to know them. Sometime in the 1800’s, British fortitude built a classic Bungalow amidst secluded terrain and dangerous forests to cultivate coffee.
Much of the seclusion and thrill remains in every step as you explore over 400 acres of largely unexplored Shola forest mountain slopes located in the Western Ghats around Chikmagalur. And all this, while you stay at the same heritage base camp.
The Facility
The HunkalWoods Camp has 2 types of Accommodation.
The Classic British Bungalow, with 4 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 living rooms, a TT area and a dorm room (sleeps 5) Best for groups above 6 – upto 18
The Ambiente Hunkal Huts 3 independent cottage style rooms with double beds, attached bath and Verandah *Best for 2/4 people
What’s in common to both facilities?
Both areas are pet friendly, view filled, facing a large garden and camping glade. Also in common are our Tree Machans, Bird Watching Perches, A Forest View Dining Zone, Campfire Space, Hunkal Hammock Zone and more…..
To Chill
In Hunkal Hammocks lie, hear birds sing, watch them fly. Spend a view filled, book reading, music listening afternoon, Or by a crackling bonfire, gaze at countless stars and a dazzling moon. Limber up with frisbee, Table Tennis or a board game, take an estate tour, sip on coffee of Hunkal fame!
Breakfast by a babbling brook, unwind in a forest nook High up in the Machan by night or by day, looking down at natures bountiful play Oh yes, at Hunkal Woods, the young and old can chill, where nothing disturbs and time stands still!

At Hunkal Woods there’s a thrill at every turn, shola grassland and mountains to conquer, fears to unlearn Midnight walks to the forest line, a tingling sense of spooky but trust us, it’s fine!

Location was good. Food was good. Staff was courteous. And we enjoyed the coffee. Functioning of UPS should be without or minimal human intervention. Overall stay was good.
