This was a surprise for us. When we booked Megur homestay, little did we know that it would turn out to be the most amazing place to stay in Chikkamagluru. The owner, Mr. Sudhaakar and his wife are far better hosts than I have dealt with in my stays in Southern India.
The place is located amidst tea plantation (Kelagur tea) in Mudegere taluk, about 70 km from Chikkamagluru. The roads are amazing and we had no difficulty in reaching the spot as the place is well mapped and GPS worked right till the homestay. The place is newly built, has two bedrooms and one large living room. The place is kept very clean and is surrounded by western ghats. You almost stay near the peak, and Mr Sudhakar will guide you the most scenic peak, Ballarayadurga which is about 15 km from the homestay.
Coming to the most important part – food. Mr Sudhakar’s wife prepared food for us and we were treated with delicious South Indian food. The package includes lunch, dinner, and breakfast. Even though it rained, Mr Sudhakar arranged for a bonfire and prepared tea around midnight.
No cons that I can think of, definitely recommended and do buy some oranges from him, they taste better than Nagpur oranges.
I visited Megur homestay with my family during 1.4.2015 to 3.4.2015. The Megur homestay is a gifted location in the western ghats. The breathtaking landscape of tea estate and surrounding greenery is the main attraction. Homestay is located near Kottigehara. the roads are good and newly repaired. Homestay building is newly constructed with all amenities . The surrounding of the hoemstay is kept neat and tidy. The trekking in the tea estate is an unique experience . I recalled my childhood days in village by the food, hospitality and the care extended by Mrs. and Mr.Sudhakar and their team. Geographically, the Kalasa, Horanadu and Kuduremuka are located very near to the homestay. With the help of Mr.Sudhakar, we have visited the peak of Ballarayadurga, a beautiful view point to see Mangalore and Arabian Sea. It worth seeing Megur homestay, which has provided a complete leisure break from our busy city life.
We have experienced a marvelous one day stay at Megur Homestay, a virigin place, on 11th June 2015. Actually it’s an experience in my life. Mr. Sudhakar is really a committed and friendly host for us and his son Mr. Gagan too. Very comfortable stay and tasty food in a hygenic condition. If you are going for a peaceful stay in the palms of western Ghats. Definitely Megur Homestay comes at first preference.
Morevoer, the nature beauty around the homestay is amazing and we will be proud of that stay.
Mr. Sudhakar, a knwoledgeable person, helped us for our field study in and around the Origin of Netravati River as part of official programme
Over all, It’s an eexperience! never miss it if you get a chance and try to grab the experience!!
