Birding
Our location at the foothills of the Nilgiris and by the banks of a rivulet is, as most birders know, a spectacular invitation for both migratory and local feathered flocks. Wildlife Photographers Chandrashekar Kalyansundaram & Giri Cavale have designed a special Bird Hide for professional bird watchers & photographers.
There are 227 bird species found in this region, which include the unique near threatened black-and-orange flycatcher.
Endemic species you can often see at the resort BIRD HIDE include Malabar trogon and Malabar grey hornbill

Jeep Safari
Jeep Safari is one of the best ways to explore the rich flora and fauna of Bandipur & Mudumalai. You get to see some of the species found only in this part of the world. The floral beauty is definitely a visual treat to one’s eyes. If you happen to be the adventure enthusiast or the wildlife photographer, then the jeep safari is a trip you must not miss. You get an opportunity to see the untouched part of the world through such safaris. One can find the various species of the animals such as deer, wild boar, sloth bear, leopard, crocodiles etc., ranging over 450 species of animals and birds. Here is a good list of animals and birds that you get to see in a safari.
MAMMALS: Tigers, Leopards, Elephants, Gaurs, Dholes (Indian Wild Dog), Sloth Bears, Langur, four-horned antelopes, chital deer (Spotted), Sambar deer, Muntjac (Barking Deer), Mouse Deer, Wild Boar, Indian giant squirrels
BIRDS: Peafowl, Grey Junglefowl, Honey buzzards, Red-headed vultures, Indian vultures, Flowerpeckers, Hoopoes, Indian rollers, Brown fish owls, Crested serpent eagles, Changeable hawk-eagles.
REPTILES: spectacled cobra, Indian rock python, viper, rat snake, muggers, monitor lizards, Indian chameleon, Indian pond terrapin, agamids and flying lizards.
The Jeep safari is an Open Jeep Safari and it lasts usually for 2.5 hrs to 3 hours and the timings are always from 6:30 am to 9/9:30 am (the morning safari) and 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm (the evening safari). The best time for the safari is from the month of October until June. The weather during these months is clear, thus increasing the chances of getting the glimpses of the animals.

Elephant Feeding Camp
More than a hundred years ago, elephants were used for timber extraction in these royal jungles. But tribal expertise with elephants predates this. When you come to the Elephant Camp at Theppakadu today, you can watch them being fed or grazing, with the mahout nearby. Did you know they are given Ragi too, in their grain rations? While this is a conservation centre open to the public in the evening, there is also the option of taking an elephant ride or watch them in puja mode.

Elephant Rides
Elephant rides are available in Mudumalai, which has the Theppakadu Elephant Camp (Tel: +91-423- 2526235), one of the biggest elephant camps in South India. The camp has elephants that work in the forest, log timber and do other forest activities. The evening feeding shows at this camp are crowd pullers. Camp viewings may be closed for short periods for the public. However, enquiries can be made at the Forest Office in Theppakadu to check the status during your visit. Advance bookings for elephant rides can only be made at the Range Reception Office in Ooty.
